I’m a Southern California native with a love for cold weather (I know), puppies and a good read. I graduated with a degree in journalism but shortly after college switched to public relations with the goal of working for charitable companies and nonprofits to make a more direct impact.

I was raised by a a firefighter father and a mother who worked in the medical industry. Growing up I would hear stories about my dad’s work that blew my mind and I would ask all the time why they put their lives at risk for people who sometimes very obviously don’t want help, or even aim to cause harm. The response was always, Because you just do. I think a lot of people learn the importance of giving back, but growing up in that environment it always just seemed like giving back in small ways was an innate responsibility. You can, so you just do, and it doesn’t always have to look pretty or make you feel warm and fuzzy.
